Szandra Szodegi – Olympic Athlete
This year, DBCPS teamed up with Sports for Champions UK Ltd to welcome Szandra Szodegi, a Ghanaian judo athlete, to our school.
Ghana saw its first ever female judo athlete compete at an Olympic Games in 2016, and yes you guessed it – it was Szandra. Even more remarkable than this, is that Szandra is in fact a former gymnastics champion from Hungary! This was just one of the many amazing and impressive stories she shared with us during her assembly to the school.
We welcomed Szandra to DBCPS on Wednesday 7th February where she helped us complete an olympic fitness circuit in under 5 minutes!
It was tough going, but all the children gave it their best and did amazingly well. We were then given the chance to listen to Szandra’s amazing story – describing how she got to where she is today – and ask her some questions too. It was a great morning!
The children raised a fantastic amount of money, which will shared between the athlete and her training needs, as well as new outdoor equipment to be used during break and lunchtimes.
We’re already looking forward to our next athlete visit to see who will inspire and motivate us in becoming future champions.
