Both Year 5 classes were fortunate enough to visit Hall Place in Bexley. Amongst its vast and beautiful grounds, we were able to learn all about mini beasts through an exciting mini beast hunt. We located mini beasts with nets in a pond and had the opportunity to look at a mini beasts around the site, including a mini beast hotel. We also enjoyed an immersive experience in a butterfly jungle. Some of the butterflies even landed on us! It was an honour!
Teddy: I learned about caterpillar eggs! They are so tiny and I had never seen them before.
Honor : I learned that the average butterfly lives for 1-2 weeks and the longest that they can live is 10 months.
Peyton: I learned that the yellow butterflies are called Brimstone.
Philip: What I was most surprised by was that butterflies have to be in a climate of at least 20 degrees to be able to fly
Vware: I learned that the Giant Owl butterflies use their pattern as a defence – they actually look like owls.
Caitlin: I was so surprised that butterflies taste with their feet.
Catherine: The Giant Elm , was a huge butterfly . It was my favourite.
Avery: I learned that the Postman butterfly visits the same leaves/flowers every day … in the same order!
Kimberly: I learned that the spots on a ladybird don’t actually reveal its age, it tells you their type e.g. English ladybirds tend to have 7 spots.
Hareen: This was the best trip I’ve ever had! I loved seeing the butterflies and when one landed on Kushal , it made me laugh so much.
Melanie: I really enjoyed looking at the wildlife. I was a bit scared when a big butterfly landed on my face, but I knew it couldn’t hurt me.
Lola: I loved going in the butterfly house . We saw really pretty butterflies but it was really warm in there.
Ijaz: I learned a lot of information about butterflies, for example they taste with their feet!
Louie: It was a blast! We learned lots of information, for example butterflies chrysalises are camouflaged to look like branches and leaves.
