Year 6 Pen Pals!
Year 6 arrived to some exciting post this morning when they discovered that the first letters had arrived from their friends in the Netherlands (Holland). Over the recent weeks Mr. Eastes has been in communication with a friend who works in the Netherlands and teaches children both in French and English. To help Year 6 develop their modern foreign language skills prior to leaving primary school we thought it would be a great idea for them to have pen pals so they could practice their writing French skills…needless to say that Year 6 were extremely happy and excited today when this became reality and their first letter arrived.
Amongst the joy and happiness the children loved their letters – and were VERY impressed with their handwriting and presentation! Our pen pals come from a school situated in The Hague/Den Haag in the Netherlands and they are of similar age to our own Year 6 children. It is anticipated that across the year we will be writing to each other regularly and children can then stay in contact even when they go on to secondary school.
We are so grateful to our friends in the Netherlands and the support from their teacher, Mrs Lohoff, and we are eager to write back to our pen pals before Christmas. We will keep everyone updated and please look out for our reply letters and more on the DBCPS blog.
Goodbye from Year 6…or should we say ‘au revior’!
