Coldplay are a British rock band formed in 1996 by lead singer and pianist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London (UCL). After they formed under the name Pectoralz, Guy Berryman joined the group as bassist and they changed their name to Starfish. Will Champion joined as drummer and backing vocalist, completing the lineup. Creative director and former manager Phil Harvey is often referred to as the fifth member by the band. The band renamed themselves Coldplay in 1998, before recording and releasing three EPs: Safety in 1998 and Brothers & Sisters and The Blue Room in 1999. The Blue Room was their first release on a major label, after signing to Parlophone. Coldplay achieved worldwide fame with the release of the song “Yellow” in 2000, followed in the same year by their debut album Parachutes, which was nominated for the Mercury Prize.

Hello and welcome to our class. We are named after Coldplay, one of the most successful bands on the planet which have sold more than 100 million records worldwide and won every major music award several times over, including 7 Grammys. Their frontman Chris Martin is equally well known for his philanthropist and charitable works, most notably on behalf of fair trade, human rights and children affected by poverty, war and disease. What an inspirational figure!

Your child’s teacher’s name is Mrs Parker and the teaching assistant working across both Year 4 classes is Mrs Waterton. In our class we teach children to be proactive, independent and reliable and therefor they have their responsibilities. The children are chosen fairly and at random at the beginning of the term and undertake jobs including: ICT, PE and Ubuntu Leaders; Book Corner and Peg Monitors, and School Councillors, to name but a few.

We celebrate positive behaviour by using various reward systems, these include: Good to be Green, Dojo points (which is a whole school reward system where teachers of other classes can reward your child for positive behaviour), certificates, stickers and verbal prise.

Teaching in Year 4 will encompass learning about British values, which links very well with our school ‘Ubuntu’ philosophy :  “I am because we are,” and  “humanity towards others”.

The Year 4 curriculum comprises of:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science

  • PE

Important things to remember:

Homework – homework is sent out on a Wednesday and must be completed and returned the following Monday. Please seek help or advice from a member or staff if you are unsure about what is expected before homework is due in.

Reading Records – please ensure your child reads regularly and you make a comment in their reading records, which they have to bring to school every day so we can listen to them read.

PE kits –  PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. PE kits are (ideally) brought into school at the beginning of each term and then taken home at the end of each term

Contact Book – for correspondence between parents and school.

We hope that your child will have a happy and exciting time in Year 4 learning new things and making long lasting friendships.

Please feel free to speak with us at the end of your child’s day if you have any questions for us or use the Contact Book.
