Class Teacher: Miss Miller

Phase Support Team: Miss Dobson, Mrs Bishop, Mr Cummins

Edward Christopher “Ed” Sheeran is a famous English singer and songwriter, who has won the hearts of people all over the world with his melodic voice. He is an occasional rapper and actor as well. His popularity increased especially after the release of his first album ‘+’ and subsequent albums ‘x’ and ‘Divide’. As well as admiring his achievements, we value the way he has overcome bullying, and followed his dream despite numerous setbacks.

Welcome to Year 5 in Sheeran Class, named after the ever popular and talented Ed Sheeran.

Your teacher this year is Miss Miller and we will be excellently supported by our teaching assistant Miss Dobson. We will begin the year learning about the Tudors in Term 1, and Space in Term 2. After Christmas our topics will be ‘Peasants and Pestilence’ and ‘Time Travellers’ before finishing the year with the Ancient Egyptians and our final topic, ‘Allotments’.

As the children are now in Upper Key Stage, they will expected to show high standards of behaviour so that they are excellent role models for the lower school, reflecting the school’s Ubuntu philosophy. Additionally they will be expected to be increasingly independent and reliable members of the school. We will reward their achievements using the Good to be Green system, Dojo Points and certificates and are looking forward to celebrating these.

Important things to remember:

Homework – Homework is sent out on a Wednesday and must be completed and returned the following Monday. Please seek help or advice from a member or staff if you are unsure about what is expected before homework is due in. If homework is not completed, children will be expected to attend Homework Club. However, should there be a valid reason as to why your child cannot complete their homework one week, please send in a note and we will be mindful of this.

Reading Records – Please ensure your child has their reading book in school every day to ensure they have it for when we listen to them read. Reading records will be checked weekly, on a Monday unless there are changes to the timetable. Please include any relevant comments when you sign. This all contributes to the children reaching 100 Reads. Ideally children should be reading 5 days a week.

PE kits –  PE days are Thursday and Friday. PE kits are (ideally) brought into school at the beginning of each term and then taken home at the end of each term. We understand that kits sometimes do need to be taken home and washed; please ensure your child’s kit is returned to school ready to be worn for the next lesson if this is the case. Thank you.

We are looking forward to a really positive year together. If you have any questions or comments, please speak to Miss Miller or Miss Dobson at the end of the school day.
